First ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System Certified University—National Taiwan University of Science and Technology

The National Taiwan University of Science and Technology has actively promoted energy conservation and carbon emission reduction since 2016 by launching energy diagnostic centers to cultivate students the technical assistance and diagnostic practical experiences of energy saving through professors’ guidance. Recently, Taiwan Tech. has reached another outstanding achievement of Energy Conservation Dedication Award of Best Energy Conservation Personnel by Bureau of Entergy on November 8, 2019, becoming the first new-version ISO 50001 certified university in Taiwan. ISO 50001: 2018 –is a new version of the international standard for energy management systems published by the International ISO Organization on August 21, 2018, assisting organizations in establishing energy baselines and energy performance indicators, and continuously improving through the Plan-Decision-Check-Action procedure to achieve the goal of systematic energy management.

Based on the goals of social responsibility and sustainable development, all faculty and students of the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology jointly promote an international standard energy management system and make commitment to abide by energy policies include (1) enhance energy efficiency and continuously improve energy performance; (2) comply with energy laws and regulations and implement green procurement; (3) invest in energy-saving improvement actions to achieve energy management goals; (4) implement energy management systems to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; (5) strengthen the image of green universities and build a sustainable campus.

The National Taiwan University of Science and Technology has continually built a smart energy management system with both hardware and software, and all the members in Taiwan Tech. have eagerly committed to energy conservation and carbon emission reduction. Under the active guidance of the Taiwan Green Productivity Foundation, Taiwan Tech. passed the ISO certification by SGS on November 15 and November 29, and held a certificate ceremony on December 17 this year. As a leading technological and vocational university, Taiwan Tech. has taken the lead in obtaining ISO 50001—the new version of energy management system. Hopefully, this can arouse considerable interest among other colleges and universities in Taiwan, and therefore build a sustainable campus with action, and work together for the energy conservation and carbon emission reduction of the planet.
